Story
We would like to thank you for the generous donations to the Alder Hey Imagine Appeal, which is well beyond what we thought we could raise for this fantastic cause.
DAN & DAVID HAVE DONE IT. Land's End to John o'Groats in 8 days.
Pictures: Check out the pictures of our trip on Dan's Facebook page (you do not need a facebook account to access).
Distance pedalled: 917 miles
Distance in a day: 142 miles Welsh Bicknor (Forest of Dean) to North of Wigan.
Ascent in a day: 8,000 feet Hayle to Exeter.
Top speed: 46 mph Dan (verified), 51 mph Gary Hitchen (verified).
King of the Mountains: Gary Hitchen's 'sprint' across Shap Fell both ways on fresh legs.
Worst bit of road: B7078, an old potholed dual carriage that shadows A74M to Glasgow.
Most dangerous bit of road: 50 miles along the A30 in Cornwall and Devon (closest thing to a motorway there is).
Best bit of road: Other side of Glasgow to Loch Lomond & Glencoe. John o'Groats to Thurso. Beautiful scenary, reasonably quiet and not as hilly as you might expect the Highlands to be.
Damage: 1 puncture, 1 broken spoke, 1 chain in need or replacement, 1 flip flop lost, 2 numb bums!
Road rage: Surprisingly almost none, except aggressive use of horn and middle finger at a roundabout before Glasgow.
Hostel rage: German gentleman in bunk below, kicking up at Dan periodically in a futile effort to stop his snoring.
Sheep rage: DJ chased out of Welsh Bicknor first thing in the morning by 3 sheep.
