My story

Thanks for visiting my fund raising page for my 365challenge (and you can learn more about the 365challenge by visiting my website: www.365challenge.co.uk).

As you can see, I've passed my target, but don't let that stop you pushing me even further past it! I could have changed the final target figure as my sponsorship continued to come through, but £3650 is a significant figure for this challenge and for my 1%ers, so I'll leave it at that for now ... but on to more serious matters ...

Cancer is too common. I'm sure many of you reading this have encountered it somewhere in your lives. Maybe a loved one or a friend, or maybe you've been touched by cancer yourself. Some of you will know that I had my own brush with cancer in 2007, when I had a malignant tumour removed. Fortunately, things appear to be going well, and I'm now on regular follow-ups only.

Sadly, my sister, Brenda Carr, wasn't so lucky, and we lost her to this disease on July 7th 2008.

So in her memory, and because ever since I was ill myself, I've wanted to do something to support the efforts of Cancer  Research UK, I've decided to undertake this 365Challenge.

My plan was to spend a full year - 365 days, starting September 1st 2008 - raising money for Cancer Research UK. Originally, I set myself the goal of raising £3560 for their important work, but as you can see, I've achieved this amount and more, reaching my original target in just three weeks, so now, the sky's the limit. I want to raise as much as I can, so just because I've smashed that target, don't be put off sponsoring me - let's blow that figure way out of the water!

My 365challenge had me undertaking a series of physical challenges, including cycling the distance from Land's End to John O' Groats, swimming the English Channel, and rowing the length of the Thames, all just using the  equipment in my gym. Trust me when I say I wasn't the fittest person around when I started, so I built up the distances involved over many visits to the gym, but by the end of the year, not only was I a lot fitter, and had raised a lot of money for this important charity, I had found that there were others who wanted to do this too, so the 365challenge continues with more and more people coming on board to support this cause ...

I'd love to have your support. Do you think you could spare 10 pence a day for a year to help conquer cancer? That's £36.50 in acknowledgement of my year long effort. - one percent of my original target. If you sponsor me this amount, I'll add you name to my 1%ers Club page on my website in acknowledgement of your support.

Of course, feel free to donate any amount, whatever you feel you'd like to give, because every penny counts, and I'll be grateful for whatever you can give. Why not support me now.

You can sponsor me through this page. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Or maybe you'd like to take up a 365Challenge along side me, on your own or maybe with a group of friends, and help me raise even more money for Cancer Research UK.

I'm looking for 365 people to take their own 365challenge. You could try one or all of my challenges along with me, or create your own! Learn more about joining the 365challenge by visiting my website - www.365challenge.co.uk.

All support is very welcome, and I hope you'll follow my progress through the website and my emails. If you want to sponsor me now, please go ahead by following the instructions on this page.

Thanks for taking time to read this and supporting my 365challenge.
