Story

Who are we?

We have teamed up with student brakeaway (www.studentbrakeaway.com) in an attempt to drive across Europe and raise money for charity. The team (as the name suggests) consists of 3 Janners from plymouth and a cockney, all graduates from university.

Team Members: Allan Bartlett (Janner), Alex Dunn (Janner), Claire Bartlett (Janner) and Joe Grant (Cockney).

What is Student Brakeaway?

Europes largest student road trip. 500 students. 5 capital cities. 1 week. Student brakeaway is similar to the world famous 'Gumball Rally'. Unlike the gumball rally, which is usually a race across a continent for the super rich in their supercars, the student brakeaway is designed to bring together hundreds of students from all over the country. Therefore, banged up cars and sleeping under canvas are in keeping with the spirit of the event.

The event can also be used as a platform to raise money for charity.

We will be travelling over 3500 miles through Holland, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland and France (see route in pictures). In addition we will be jumping from the famous Verzasca Dam (as seen in Goldeneye), the highest permanent bungee jump in the world!

Why Donate?

All proceeds raised will go to a worthy cause, the Teenage Cancer Trust. None of the your contributions will go towards our participation in this event.

About the Teenage Cancer Trust

Young people can get some of the most rare and aggressive forms of cancer. Their rapidly growing bodies work against them, enabling the cancer to grow faster. The emotional upheaval of adolescence can make a cancer diagnosis even harder to cope with.

Every day in the UK, six young people will have to face that diagnosis. This is a rising figure and there are already more young people than children with the disease. Yet because only 0.5% of all cancers occur in teenagers and young adults, they are often misdiagnosed initially. This decreases their chances of survival and can mean they are excluded from clinical trials

 - Every day in the UK, six young people aged 13 to 24 are told they have cancer. That’s about 2,100 young people a year.

- Cancer is the number one cause of non-accidental death in young adults in the UK

How will the money be used?

Teenage Cancer Trust exists to improve the quality of life and chances of survival for young people with cancer.

 - It costs between £500,000 and £3,500,000 depending on the nature, size and location to build and equip a new unit.

 - Funding frontline staff such as Youth Support Co-ordinators and Nurse Consultants.
