3 Cycleers - The Ride to PB's Challenge 2010 · 25 June 2010

Dallaglio RugbyWorks helps young people who are facing considerable personal challenges and additional barriers in education or future employment. We use the values of rugby to empower marginalised teenagers, at risk of being left behind by society, to aspire for and achieve a better future.

Story

When long-standing Norwich Union Rugby Club stalwart Paul (PB) Barker decided to up sticks in Norfolk for a pile of assorted stones in the middle of a Scottish field that he would one day call home it was only ever going to be a matter of time before we could no longer resist the lure of a G&T with our old mate.

The only question was how to get up there.

Obviously no-one in their right mind would consider driving on one of PB’s big nights out so the big man came back to us with some suggestions:

"Hello Lads, in between building a staircase I've been checking out travel options to get to Aberdeen, a bit like pulling teeth on dialup!

Looks like cheap flights from Norwich have dried up, you can get a return flight from Luton for £87, or it's an 8.5 hour drive (last time I did it..)

There's always the push bike, I hear that's in favour at the moment.

We once got 4 up on gaz's bike before the back wheel collapsed, you could share the pedalling."

That was back in June last year but the seeds had been sown. Slowly, very slowly a plan came together………

It's just 750 miles from Norwich to PBs and half of that is downhill – we were thinking we should be able to do that in a week if we have plenty of spare tubes and a big enough tub of chamois cream.............
