My story

The Three Peaks Challenge in 24 Hours

We're off to the Three Peaks Challenge and we need your help to raise funds for The British Red Cross.

It's taken me many months of careful planning, from rounding up people passionate enough to go and do it to finding drivers crazy enough to take us to the base of the three highest points in the United Kingdom. But the team now consists of 4 walkers, 2 drivers, 2 cars and 3 peaks to conquer.

The Team:
Jonathan Dicks
Alexandra Dicks
Sally Downes
Graham Lyle
Rachel Clayton
Martin Railton
Matthew Wintrip

What is the Three Peaks Challenge?
The three peaks are Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in Wales, making up the three highest points in the UK.

And we're going to drive to each one in turn and climb up it, then climb back down again over the course of 24 hours.

It doesn't have to be a 24 hours challenge, but we're hardcore walkers and we didn't want to buck the trend. Driving 450 miles and walking over 25 miles of footpaths? Bring it on!

There are no hard and fast rules regarding the Three Peaks Challenge, but we're going to go with what the Three Peaks website says, which is to start the clock at the base of the first mountain and leave it running until we've climbed and driven to every peak and back down again.

The Three Peaks Challenge website also says that Ben Nevis should take about 5 hours, Scafell Pike in 5 hours and Snowdon in 4 hours, giving us 10 hours driving time between Scotland, the Lake District and Wales. That should save our drivers from speeding at least.

Typically, it falls to me to do all the navigating as well as organizing this rabble. Such are the burdens of leadership I suppose. Navigating in pitch darkness and thick mist should be fun. Torches at the ready folks!

I've got to say thank you to both www.fitnessfootwear.com and Getronics for being kind enough to sponsor us on our adventure. We're all going to be wearing sponsored t-shirts and the cars will be stickered up with their brands. We'd also like to thank fitness footwear for supplying us all with new walking boots for the trip.

We need your support
Corporate sponsorships are great when you're trudging up mountains, but we still need your help to give a weighty contribution to The British Red Cross, so please give what you can. It will make our journey all the more worthwhile and benefit the people in need of your help.
