We have finally completed it! Three very different climbs across 4 days (we had to delay Snowdon by a day due to bad weather). Ben Nevis was long but fun as we met some great people along the way. Scafell Pike was hard going but a real adventure as we made our way to the top and down just as the light faded. Snowdon was wet, windy with no visibility but the cafe at the top was great. So ends this year's charity venture. I am sure there will be more mountains in the future, but next year I am going to do something tennis related with Luke. Until then, thanks again for all your support and donations
Why did we do it? In November 2008, my 8th month old son Noah was rushed into Southampton Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with a rare form of viral croup. At the time we weren't sure if he was going to make it. Each day we prayed that he would come through it, and 7 days later he was moved to a normal ward, before returning home in time for Christmas.
From that moment on I promised to raise as much money as possible every year for Friends of PICU as a thank you for the incredible work they do. The doctors' and nurses' dedication to their work is inspiring, as is the positivity they instill in you as you wait helplessly for things to get better. It's a cliche to say that it was a life changing experience, but it was. I will never forget how they made our lives as comfortable as possible and how they looked after Noah.
Money raised will make a huge difference to them, whether its helping towards more life saving equipment, or specialist ambulances or smaller items such as toys for the children as they begin their recovery, or helping to cover the costs of the onsite parents accomodation which is so important. Southampton Paediatric Intensive Care Unit is the only dedicated unit of its kind across the South/South East Coast, and therefore the demands on it are huge.
Of course I am aware times are hard and there are constant demands for sponsorship, but whatever you can give really will be appreciated. We were one of the lucky families who were able to return to a normal life, for others its not always the case, and by helping you really could save lives of young children across the South of England.
Thank you
Paul
