Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Claire O'brien, Louisa Thompson and Richard Howarths JustGiving page.

Claire and Louisa both lost their mums to cancer when they were just 24 years old and becoming mums themselves for the first time.  Now in their 30’s they have decided to do a crazy challenge and complete the National 3 Peaks, in their memory. This entails climbing Ben Nevis the highest peak in Scotland, Scarfell Pike the highest in England and Snowdon the highest in Wales, all this in 24 hours! Richard has very kindly offered to lead them on this adventure to make sure they don’t get lost, stay sane and support them through this challenge with his great expertise! Paul another great friend of Louisa’s has also kindly offered to join team Westdale and be the driver for the trip.

Claire’s Mum June battled from a rare form of bowl and liver cancer and sadly died in Sept  2000 just 1 year after diagnosis of this horrible aggressive disease.  She is dearly missed by her 3 children and now has 6 grandchildren who live on through her memory. June was a fun loving person with such a calm presence.  She always had time for others and their problems, giving kind words of wisdom and a shoulder to lean on.  Family always came first and many hours were spent at the local chapel helping with flower arrangements and teaching Sunday school. Many people in her local village  remember her as being a warm and bubbly personality with a great sense of humor.

Louisa’s mum Jessica also had a rare form of cancer, a cancer of the blood called Myeloma which she lived with for 10 years and in the end died at home surrounded by her family on the 4th July 2007.  Jessica was a strong, ballsy, feisty, energetic person who lived life to the full and infected those she met with her effervescent personality and zest for life. She was amazing at keeping up relationships and was there for many friends and family across the country.  She is missed so much by us all, and also has 7 grandchildren now who live on through her memory.

We have learnt over the years to cope with their absence but will never get over our loss.  This challenge has been a great emotional ride for us both and we have shared so much together, laughter, tears and advice.  We want to do this for our own personal achievement, to help raise awareness of cancer and support the fantastic work that cancer research does every day.

Please donate whatever you can and help us to hit our Target

Many Thanks

Claire, Louisa, Richard and Paul.
