My story

On the 16th November 2010 my son Joshua James Daniel Cullinane was born. He was a beautiful boy but was born very poorly. Joshua was suffering from an as yet undiagnosed neurological condition that just four difficult months later would take his young life.

Joshuas care needs were extensive and without the help of a group of truly remarkable people Kelly and I would have fallen apart. The last two months of Joshuas life were spent at the Demelza hospice for children (www.demelza.org.uk). This is an extraordinary organisation staffed and run by some exceptional people.  No matter what we were confronted with, no matter what Joshuas needs they would always be able to help. They kept us functioning as a family and gave us the time to enjoy Joshua for the gorgeous, tough and wonderful little boy he was.

Kelly and I feel we owe Demelza a debt we will never be able to repay but that won’t stop us trying. As such on the 29th March 2012 (a year to the day that Joshua passed away) I will be embarking on a little bike ride and mountain climb to raise money for them.

Myself and five close friends and family will be aiming to complete the national three peaks challenge but with three changes to the usual format. We will be doing the event in reverse saving the highest peak, Ben Nevis until last (just to test out the legs) also, rather than drive between the peaks we will be cycling (approximately 475 miles) and the third and possibly the most ridiculous change will be that we aim to complete this in 72 hours.

We hope that this will capture the imagination of people and maybe tempt them to donate to this exceptional cause.

You will be able to follow our training and the progress of the event on www.4joshua.org and there is also a facebook page "4Joshua" please follow this and pass it onto your friends.

Anything you can give will be hugely appreciated and all money will go to the charity. All the event costs will be absorbed by us.

Thankyou for your generosity.

Lawrence Cullinane
