My story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please sponsor us here or drop by our blog and leave a comment. Many Thanks.

(update:)

Last night we made the £1000 target we set for our selves. Hurrah! This does not mean the fundraising is over by a long way, just that people have been more generous than we imagined so please if you feel inclined, don't be shy. Donate! No amount is too small and it all goes straight to the Alzheimer's Society.

In June 2008 Dave, Nick, Steve and Stephen are cycling unsupported from John O'Groats to Lands End over the course of 9  days to raise money for The Alzheimers Society. More information on our preparations etc can be found at  Our Blog
If you prefer Donations can be made via PayPal on our blog. I will credit all donations on this site. Many Thanks!

We both have first hand experience of the misery that this awful disease can cause. Dave's Father died last year after suffering for several years with Alzheimer's and Nick has worked as a nurse, with Alzheimer's and other dementia patients for 16 years. We have witnessed the pain, suffering and emotional torment that this illness causes to the sufferer and  to the family who are left to cope.  Please help us help the Alzheimer's society. They are a leading care and research charity for people with dementia and those who care for them.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Alzheimer's Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Here are some Stats to illustrate the size of the problem:

  1. There are now more than 5 million people in the United States living with Alzheimer's
  2. Every 72 seconds, someone develops Alzheimer's in the US
  3. The direct and indirect costs of Alzheimer's and other dementias amount to more than  $148 billion annually.
  4. In the UK there are currently 700,000 people with dementia  and 60,000 deaths a year are directly attributable to dementia.
  5. There are an estimated 24 million people with dementia worldwide. By 2040, it is projected that this figure will have increased to 81 million.

    Many thanks for your support.
