Story

My son has Aspergers syndrome, which is a form of autism. It impacts on his life in so many ways, many of which aren't visible to the casual observer.

Whilst I celebrate who he is, and wouldn't want to change him, I do worry about the future and how he will cope with the world as he grows into an adult (and how the world will cope with him!).

And so...my daughter Jessica and I will be completing the Wirral Coastal Walk in support of the Autism Research Trust, which funds the Autism Research Centre in Cambridge. The walk is 15 miles around the coast of Wirral from Seacombe to Thurstaston.

I'll be tweeting as I go on 27/5/2012 - you can follow me on @4harrisons or using the tag #wirralcoastalwalk

I have been involved with the Autism Research Centre for a while now and I'm very keen to support the work they do to understand what autism is, how it impacts individuals, and what interventions are effective.

I really hope that by supporting the Autism Research Trust (which funds the Cambridge ARC) I can help support the effort to understand autism and make my son's (and everyone with autism's) effort to handle a "neurotypical" world easier.
