Story

#4ourJack

In 2003 we found out that my little brother Jack, aged 15 months, had been born with Tetralogy of Fallot -a congenital heart defect. He, my mother and my step father were rushed to Bristol Children's Hospital where they stayed for 5 months.

During this time Jack underwent 4 open heart surgeries and 10 other operations that came with their complications. After being told too many times to prepare for the worst I'm pleased to say that Jack has just turned 12 and is a funny, stroppy, curious and playful pre-teen like every other boy his age. Despite his challenges and disabilities he never gives up, never sheds a tear and never ever complains. Like a true hero our little boy tries, fails, picks himself up and tries again - a true inspiration.

I am very proud of him and am very grateful to the workers of the BCH and The Grand Appeal for looking after my family, saving my brother’s life and therefore allowing me to write his story here today. They really did make a difference and always made a heartwarming effort to take care of all the little things too - I will forever be in their debt, a debt which I can never truly repay. But with your help I can certainly do my bit.

My aim with the #4ourJack campaign is to raise as much money as I can for this great charity so that other proud big sisters can have the chance to laugh, cry, fight and make up with their little brothers too.

Jack is a huge lover of sports like all young boys his age but he's not always able to compete as they do due to his condition and disabilities. Therefor I am taking on this huge challenge in his honour so that he can give back to those who helped him and help other children and their families with their fight.

Jack Carter: “If it wasn’t for the Bristol Children’s Hospital I would never  have had the chance to see Bale score or play COD with my friends. I want to say thank you to them by helping other children win their fight now…but my sister can do all the leg work!”
