"4 Peaks in 3 days - no worries! They can't be that big, this is only the UK after all!"...
That was my response to Jason's suggestion of competing in the Wooden Spoon 4 Peaks Challenge 2007 one saturday night around October 06 (after a couple of post rugby match beers, obviously!).
SInce then a team consisting of Jason Elvidge, Dave Hutchinson, Paul Davies and myself (Gary Dutton) has been formed and entered into the challenge - to climb the 3 highest peaks in Scotland, Wales and Ireland, and the 4th highest in England: Ben Nevis - Scotland, Helvellyn - England, Snowdon - Wales and Carantouhill in Ireland. Jase, Hutch and myself are climbing whilst Paul has the responsibility of getting us to and from each peak.
The first climb begins on the morning of Thursday 28th June 2007 up Ben Nevis followed by a drive to North West England. On Friday 29th June 2007 Helvellyn and Snowdon are conquered with an overnight ferry to Ireland. After a long drive on Saturday 30th June Carantouhill is the final peak to climb to complete the challenge.
The 4 Peaks Challenge is organised by the Wooden Spoon Charity - rugby's charity supporting mentally, physically and socially disadvantaged children and young people. With each team member being an ex-rugby player (or soon to be one!) Wooden Spoon was the obvious charity for us to raise funds for. Further information can be found on the Wooden Spoon website.
I will be adding a link to some photos of us before, in training, during and after the climbs to provide some amusement for all so feel free to check up on us at any time!
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Wooden Spoon will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.
The Team.
