What is the Race Across the West?

The iconic Race Across the West (RAW) starts in Oceanside, California on 16 June, and finishes in Durango, Colorado – a total of 860 miles across the rugged American West with a time limit of 66 hours. (www.raceacrossthewest.org)

As well as being a race in its own right, it forms the first stage of the 3000 mile Race Across America.  We will be on the road day and night racing against the clock – strategically rotating riders to play to our team members’ strengths. Our team was inspired by the discovery of this race as a shared goal of both Jeana and Jane.

We enlisted 2 further team mates - Stacy and Leah, and signed up a support crew of 5 (Jake, Jenn, James, Dave and Ron) who will travel in the follow vehicle and RV.  Our volunteer support crew will be invaluable – providing us with correct nutrition, hydration, sports massage, and mechanical support - for the bikes that is!  We've gained financial and product sponsors  too to help us cover our costs.

Jane chose to support the Astro Brain Tumour Fund in the UK. The charity was set up by one of her closest friends (following her brother-in-law's diagnosis of an low grade astrocytoma at the age of 30).  Since its inception in 2001 the charity has been able to provide funds for both life changing neuro-oncological research and patient care.

The Scleroderma Foundation was chosen by Jeana after a friend of hers has successfully battled this autoimmune disease due to advanced medical research enabled by the charity.
