Story
The Norfolk Hospice Tapping House supports, cares for and improves the quality of life for people in the most difficult of circumstances. They rely very much on donations to support the majority of their operating costs.
Therefore I have launched the 5 x Tri Challenge in order to raise much needed money for this most important service. On the 7th of July 2012 I will plunge into The Wash and swim across from Old Hunstanton (Norfolk) to Gibralter Point (Lincolnshire)(11 miles). Once ashore I will mount a cycle and ride 115 miles to Cromer, and then swap my cycle shoes for trainers and run the Pedders Way from Cromer to Hunstanton (46 miles). This challenge has never been attempted before and I will complete it non-stop and aim to finish in 20 hours.
The name of this event is 5 X Tri Challenge because the total distance covered in an Olympic distance triathlon (32.2 miles) is one fifth of the distance covered in during the 5 X Tri Challenge (172 miles).
Preparation for such an extreme challenge will consume the best part of 2 years and during this time I will deal with the logistics of organising the event and gradually increase my training workload. Currently I train for cycle time trials and Olympic distance triathlon and average 200 miles cycling, 25 miles running and 5 miles swimming per week. These training distances will increase dramatically between now and 2012. I hope that you will support me and follow my training progress via updates that I will publish on the 5 X Tri Challenge event page.
