OUR TEAM: the back story

In 2010, Gary Edgerton (Edge) was working at RAF High Wycombe and was asked if he would like to take part in a 10k run. He wasn't too keen on the prospect until he realised it was on the Formula 1 track at Silverstone. He agreed and started training, at first only managing 15 minutes on the treadmill. The weekend before the Tuesday night 10k run he finally managed a 10k in a time of 01:10:00. On the evening of the event, the run had started and after 1k Edge was tiring and at 2k he was considering pulling out. It was it this point Roy Roberts caught up with him and realised he had set off far too fast. Roy then paced Edge and 'guided' him to the finish in a time of 00:59:00. A month later Edge completed his second 10k, and then a third 10k. Once Roy's series of 10k's had been completed, because everyone who took part had said 'keep the change from the entry fees', Roy announced he had raised some £200.00 for Help for Heroes. This gave Edge an idea, organise a team to take part in running events (to promote positive attitudes to fitness) and raise money for charity. The first of these events was the 2011 Silverstone Half Marathon and the 600SQN team raised £2,222.22

SILVERSTONE HALF MARATHON 2011
