Story
Pictured left is Josephine's baby. Her only shelter day in day out is this broken umbrella. She is currently on a waiting list to enter the nursery preschool set up by the charity I am fundraising. This nursery which is funded entirely by a small charity, Edo Women based in London have provided a place for 40 babies (age 3months - 4yrs) taking them out of these awful conditions while their mothers work on markets or roadsides to survive. The conditions of the markets are third world, dirty, dangerous and a grim start to these babies little lives.
The charity based in London have worked tirelessly to build and run this nursery which opened 5 years ago. They have been accredited by the United Nations and even the Queen for their work. However fundraising has become harder and harder and now the situation is desperate and the nursery is in real danger of closure after Christmas.
I've supported this charity and all their projects both in Africa and in London for many years and feel passionately for their work. With help from my friends and past clients we've funded several small projects, paid staff wages for a period, shipped toys over and organised small Christmas Parties for the children.
WITH THIS CHALLENGE I'M ASKING AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE TO PLEASE HELP ME TO HELP THEM. Myself with a small group of 5 other mums will hike the highest peaks of Cumbria, that's 6 peaks in just one day. It will be a non-stop hike for approx 12 hours in winter and much of it in darkness. We're all just ordinary mums so this is the challenge of our lives. If we can reach our target we can not only secure this nursery for life, we can install some proper play equipment inside and outside and we can look to expanding the care offered beyond the 40 babies we currenty have.
The thought of returning these babies back to the filthy conditions they've been rescued from and abandoning all hope of expanding this and other projects is heartbreaking.
Please make a donation no matter how small and send me messages of support for the challenge which will certainly give me the courage and strength to do it.
I will post updates and thank yous via this webpage so please report back and keep supporting us.
THANK YOU
Sharon x
