Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Last year the Royal Engineers Corps Recruiting Team cycled from Selly Oak Hospital to Headley Court on a 7 man bike in order to raise money for Help for Heroes. This year we wanted to do something different! The Team (Capt Scott) decided to enter us into the Mazda London Triathlon. We aim to complete the 1500m swim, 40km cycle and 10km run as part of a team relay. The only issue, apart from it possibly being a little tiring, is completing the 40km cycle on the 7 man bike!

The chosen charity is the 'ABF The Soldiers Charity'. We aim to raise £15000 the same amount as we raised last year during our annual charity event. This is an ambitious target for an extremely good cause.

ABF The Soldiers Charity give lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families. Soldiers risk so much for us, but for them, it’s “just doing their job”. In return, the ABF give them down-to-earth help and friendship, with no hassle or bureaucracy. The charity has been offering this help for 66 years. Recently they have seen a 30% year on year rise in applications from soldiers who have taken part in previous and current conflicts and currently raise £7 million a year to meet this need.

As a result of Current Operations it is anticipated that the requests for assistance will rise significantly in the coming years. It is the aim of The Soldiers’ Charity to increase fundraising to £14 million a year by 2015 to be sure that we can help each and every soldier that needs our help. The charity relies entirely on your donations and goodwill to do this.

The ABF The Soldiers Charity provides in the following areas:

Debt relief

Mobility assistance and home modifications

Education bursaries

Annuities and carehome fees

War widow and family financial support

Holiday schemes

We also give grants to a wide number of specialist charities.
