I admire the team’s courage so much”   Bear Grylls - July 2011   UPDATE 13.9.11 Due to the recent adverse weather conditions, and after taking advice from the Coast Guard, the team have unfortunately had to make some tough decisions and have amended their route. They are now travelling from Whitehaven to Fort William today (September 13) with the RIB travelling down the Caledonian Canal, bypassing Neptune’s Staircase, and then onto Fort Augustus.  On September 14 they will head to Loch Ness and then the Moray Firth, back on course to arrive in St Andrews on Thursday, September 15.   This year is the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 tragedy when more than 3,000 people lost their lives in the attack on New York’s World Trade Centre in 2001, in a bid to raise money for the New York Fire Department Foundation and the UK Fire Fighters Charity, a team from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service will attempt to circumnavigate the UK coastline in a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) in 9 days, 9 hours and 9 minutes.   I am just one member of the small team who will be attempting this challenge and I have set up this page on behalf of the team. Every 30 seconds in the UK, fire fighters are called to an incident, putting their lives on the line, and often sustaining physical injuries whilst carrying out their duties.
