My story
“a great challenge and for an incredible charity that saves lives all year round. I admire the team’s courage so much” Bear Grylls - July 2011
UPDATE 13.9.11
Due to the recent adverse weather conditions, and after taking advice from the Coast Guard, the team have unfortunately had to make some tough decisions and have amended their route.
They are now travelling from Whitehaven to Fort William today (September 13) with the RIB travelling down the Caledonian Canal, bypassing Neptune’s Staircase, and then onto Fort Augustus. On September 14 they will head to Loch Ness and then the Moray Firth, back on course to arrive in St Andrews on Thursday, September 15.
This year is the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 tragedy when more than 3,000 people lost their lives in the attack on New York’s World Trade Centre in 2001, in a bid to raise money for the New York Fire Department Foundation and the UK Fire Fighters Charity, a team from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service will attempt to circumnavigate the UK coastline in a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) in 9 days, 9 hours and 9 minutes.
I am just one member of the small team who will be attempting this challenge and I have set up this page on behalf of the team. We hope you will support us by donating via this page.
Local Radio stations will be giving us their support during the challenge, the route we are taking is:
· 10th Sept Southampton
· 11th Sept Padstow
· 12th Sept Pwllheli
· 13th Sept Whitehaven
· 14th Sept Mallaig
· 15th Sept Scrabster
· 16th Sept St Andrews
· 17th Sept Bridlington
· 18th Sept Ramsgate
· 19th Sept Southampton
Every year, thousands of fire fighters are injured whilst protecting the public. Every 30 seconds in the UK, fire fighters are called to an incident, putting their lives on the line, and often sustaining physical injuries whilst carrying out their duties. The Fire Fighters Charity is here for all fire service personnel during their times of need, and assists thousands of individuals every year, by providing pioneering treatment and support services.
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate whatever you can now.
My charity
The Fire Fighters Charity
Charity Registration No. 1093387
Every 30 seconds in the UK fire fighters are called to an incident, risking their lives to save others, but sadly they often sustain physical injuries whilst carrying out their duties. The Fire Fighters Charity is here for fire fighters during their times of need. The Charity offers vital support services across the UK for all fire fighters, assisting in excess of 17,500 individuals every year. Our modern, dynamic and award-winning charity has three UK centres, located in Cumbria, Devon and West Sussex, which provide therapy, rehabilitation and recuperation facilities. Our pioneering Beneficiary Support Services offers local and remote assistance to fire service personnel in need nationwide – providing solutions to real life problems. It costs over £9 million every year to keep the Charity running, and with no government funding, we are completely reliant upon donations and fundraising, so your support is very much needed.
