<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">The 9th/12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales’s), will be deploying to Afghanistan in April of 2011. The regiment is the local armoured regiment for Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire and is manned predominantly with soldiers recruited locally to these areas.</span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">Ex members of the regiment, known as “Old Comrades” are keen to support the regiment during this very testing time, and have decided to raise monies for an “Operational Tour Fund”. All monies raised will be given to the 9th/12th Royal Lancers Charitable Association (Registered charity number 803726), which is the registered charity for the regiment. All monies raised will be used to assist and support serving soldiers and their families.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">A number of ex members of the regiment, along with family and friends will be walking the coast to coast route known as “Wainwrights Walk”. This entails walking from St Bees, near Whitehaven in Cumbria, to Robin Hoods Bay in Yorkshire, a total of 192 miles. The walk will commence on Monday 6th June, 2011, and will take a total of 12 days.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">The main body of walkers will be joined along the way by others, who due to work commitments or disabilities can only walk certain stages; this gives the opportunity for all those wanting to be involved, to do so.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">Each person participating in the walk will be sponsored by family, friends and work colleagues, helping to raise money for the fund. The target is £10,000. This is a huge amount to raise and cannot be achieved without involving the local business community as well.</p>
