Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page. From 15 - 19 September 2010 I will be cycling from London to Paris to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society and with your support I aim to raise £1,500 for the charity.

As life-expectancy continues to increase, so will the number of people living with dementia - it's a pending epidemic. However it's a misconception that Alzheimer's dementia effects only the elderly. Early onset Alzheimer's accounts for 5 - 10% of all cases, but frequently these symptoms are misdiagnosed as anxiety or depression causing increased strain and uncertainty for the sufferer as well as their family and carers. In 2007, my father-in-law Chris Brown died aged just 57 years old, 18 months after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's - that correct diagnosis took 6 years.

The Alzheimer's Society provides vital support, both locally and nationally, for Alzheimer's carers and the cared-for as well as educating healthcare professionals to assist earlier diagnosis. We need your support to help other families deal with this terminal disease.

Jeremy Laurance, Health Editor of The Independent, describes Alzheimer's dementia quite succinctly - "It strips people of their memory, their personality and eventually their humanity. It is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that is incurable and irreversible."

Donating through Just Giving is simple, fast and secure. The money goes directly to the Alzheimer's Society charity and we can reclaim Gift Aid on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer so I raise more money and it helps the charity by saving time and cutting costs.

Thank you for support and sponsorship,

Andy
