Bury Hospice serves the people of Prestwich, Whitefield, Radcliffe, Bury, Tottington and Ramsbottom and has been located at its site on Dumers Lane Radcliffe, since the Hospice was first built and opened in 1991.  Bury Hospice provides end-of-life care for patients and their families on a 24 hour-a-day basis, 365 days of the year and ALL care is offered free of charge.

Since opening 18 years ago, there has not been a single hour when Bury Hospice has not been providing support for families who have entrusted the care of their loved ones to us at a difficult time.

Bury Hospice currently has 5 inpatient beds and is therefore the smallest Hospice inpatient unit in the UK.  Because of the limited number of beds and some physical constraints within the building, the Hospice has predominantly been able to offer its specialised palliative care to those with a cancer diagnosis.  It is difficult to admit patients who need specialist equipment such as large wheelchairs, and there have been occasions when the hospice has not been able to admit some of these patients for in-patient care.

The Bury Hospice Trustees have long recognised further expansion on the existing site is not possible and two recent generous legacies have given them the confidence to bring forward plans to acquire a new site and build a new larger and better equipped Hospice.

Plans for the new Hospice include doubling the number of inpatient beds from five to 10, larger and more flexible spaces for patient care, a variety of clinics and sessions for Day and Out Patients, improved visitor facililties with greater catering capacity and training and development facilities for staff, professionals and volunteers.

It was originally envisaged that building, equipping and opening the new Hospice would cost £5 million. However, much work has been done since to agree final details and costs and it is now known that it will cost £4.18 million to build and equip.  Therefore the Capital Appeal target has been revised.  Two large legacies have greatly helped the progress towards this target!!

Bury Hospice is now now actively seeking donations towards the remaining £500,000 needed - please help us in whatever way you can!!!!
