I suppose you're wondering why I am doing it. Well, I am raising for the NAS as my son has an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Whilst his symptoms and problems aren't too pronounced, since diagnosis, we have attended some locally organised parent self help groups, and met some really wonderful families who, without the help and support of the NAS would be struggling to cope.
About half a million people are affected by Autism in the UK. Additionally, there are the 2 million parents, carers and siblings whose lives are affected from living with and caring for a loved one with Autism.
The NAS offer a number of professional services that help people affect by autism. These projects are a valuable lifeline, which need your support to continue.
So, how will your donation help?
£1000 could pay for modern play equipment, which would benefit up to 50 children in one of their schools. The NAS run six non profit-making schools and colleges, and 18 residential and day services Nationwide.
£150 could enable the NAS to run a workshop for 35 parents. The Family Support Network offers valuable grass roots support to people with autism and their families.
£42 per month could train a Helpine Advisor. The NAS Autism Helpline offers information, support and advice to over 30,000 individuals a year.
£250 could help the NAS to train 10 befriending volunteers, in turn providing support to 10 individual families. £40 could pay for one family assessment visit. A UK wide volunteering scheme giving families and individuals affected by autism the opportunity to have regular contact with a responsible volunteer and much needed respite.
