In September 2010, I lost a good friend to cancer. Her mother, who became a similarly good friend after that, succumbed to the same illness in January this year.

Sarah was a practical girl, and she would have wanted anything done in her memory to be of practical help to others. She was also a keen walker, and a lover of our land's northern climes, so in April this year, I shall be walking the 84 miles of Hadrian's Wall to raise sponsorship for the work of Cancer Research UK.
