Story

Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page

We and a group of friends are taking part in a 228 mile cycle ride, starting from NCCA headquarters in London and finishing at the childrens ward at Leeds General Infirmary in May 2014

We would like you to consider support and sponsorship for Joseph Lillywhite; Joseph is 6 years old and lives in Leeds with his parents Mark and Helen and little sister Grace.  In January 2013, Joseph was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma.

Neuroblastoma, is a rare and very aggressive childhood cancer. It causes 15% of childhood cancer deaths and two children are diagnosed every week in the UK. Unfortunately, long term survival for children with high risk neuroblastoma is less than half the average rate for other childhood cancer and relapse rates are high.  Joseph’ cancer was found around his kidney, and in his bone marrow, hips and thighs.

Joseph has gone through intense treatment and is still receiving frontline treatment at the Leeds General Infirmary

Despite Neuroblastoma being “high risk” there is no Protocol in the UK for relapse neuroblastoma if further treatment is needed. This means, if Joseph has a relapse he would need treatment outside of the UK.  We understand Germany and the US offer this treatment which ranges between £220K - £500K.  Joseph has teamed up with Neuroblastoma Alliance UK to raise funds; We are praying that Joseph’s frontline treatment is a success and that we won’t need any further treatment, however should Joseph not require such treatments any funds raised will go directly to The Neuroblastoma Alliance UK to help fund children who do need further treatment.  In addition, the funds will aid the research and development of new and improved treatment of this childhood cancer.

We personally know Joseph; he is such a sweet, strong little boy and an inspiration to us all.  You can follow Joseph’s journey on Facebook (you don’t need to be on facebook to follow him)
