Story
This year 35 of us, mainly from Altrincham Kersal RFC will be cycling 80 miles of the Trans-Pennine Trail in a day from Altrincham to Pennistone in Yorkshire and back on 1st July to raise money for Christies Hospital. The target this year is to raise in excess of the £15,000 which will go towards a New Chemotherapy Delivery Unit, but we will need your help to do that.
In 2000/1 the Christie Hospital treated 75,300 outpatients which had risen by 26% in 2002/3 to 95,200. This trend is placing demands on the hospital's facilities that it is struggling to meet. At present there can be problems if patients need to stay over night because there are no seperate bed and bathroom areas for men and women. To exacerbate the problem, the current ward is treating 60-70 patients per day but there is only really room for 40.
The New Chemotherapy Delivery Unit will comprise of an attractive reception area and waiting room, a number of clinical and consulting rooms, a treatment area with both treatment chairs and beds, a drug preparation pharmacy and an 8 bed overnight stay annexe with seperate male and female facilities.
