With a new blood cancer diagnosis every 27 seconds worldwide, Cure Leukaemia funds research nurses at UK blood cancer centres, giving patients access to treatments through clinical trials. This support drives global significant advancements in blood cancer, impacting those affected by the disease.

Story

Amy found out she was one of the unlucky ones in July 2009 when she was diagnosed with M4-type Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. She underwent six months of chemotherapy in Queen Alexanrda Hospital, Portsmouth. That unfortunately didn't do the trick, despite her boundless bravery and refusal to give in. In January 2010 she entered Southampton General Hospital for preparatory treatment to recieve a Stem Cell Transplant - her 'last chance' - which left her ravaged from the effects. She refused to be broken when she emerged, five months later, only to re-enter soon after with Cytomeglavirus. When it looked good and she finally was discharged in July 2010, she underwent months of staying away from crowds, Found out what it was like to eat without being sick immediately afterwards and rediscovered being a loving mum again to Frankie, her devoted daughter. With enormous help from her family, brilliant friends and loving partner Steve, Amy was told the good news that her new stem cell graft was successful and enjoyed a superb holiday in St Lucia, a lifetime dream for her. Soon after returning she fell ill again and was told the horrifying news in August 2011 that the leukaemia had returned. Treatment was not a possibility and after a spirited fight, she died peacefully on 20 October. Nothing can possibly replace her, except maybe for Frankie, her wonderful daughter now aged nine. We are all devastated by her loss.

So far, everyone's unbelievable generosity has raised over five thousand pounds.  Cure Leukaemia funds research into experimental treatments to beat this disease for good, using pioneering work based in the West Midlands and the University of Birmingham, a known centre of excellence in medical research into blood cancers like Lymphoma and Leukaemia.  Ten thousand pounds pays for one research nurse for six months.  Research nurses administer treatments and care for patients under care, essential work when aiming to beat all forms of blood cancer like our beautiful daughter suffered from.  We know how valuable this work can be.

To prevent anyone else so precious becoming another victim of this awful disease, please give generously. We think it is what Amy would have wanted.

In lieu of your generosity, we all thank you so much.
