Story
It is autumn of 2010 now. In March of 2007 I was given the terrible diagnosis of malignant pleural mesothelioma. This disease has a median survival of 12 months ! That is 50% of patients can expect to die within 12 months of diagnosis. The fact that I am still alive just over three and a half years later is to me a miracle.
I have had standard treatments of chemotherapy but also have taken part in a trial of gene therapy in the USA , the key to improved survival in this terrible disease is more research and this page links to mesothelioma.co.uk the leading charitable trust in the UK devoted to mesothelioma.
I recently underwent a radical pleurectomy and am going to start on another trial treatment in Holland in December. Since my diagnosis I have taken up cycling and the photos on this page are of a trip in Tasmania in 2008 and Cambodia in 2009. As a rehab goal following the surgery I am planning to cycle from Bangkok to Phuket. If you would like to sponsor me please use this page. the total cycled on the tour is 455Km .
I have seen one of my children leave school and plan to live long enough to see them all do so , by donating to research you may be able to help that happen for someone else !
