Star Striding for Hospice at Home West Cumbria Ladies Midnight Walk 2011 · 8 July 2011

We provide high quality palliative and end of life care to people in their own homes and local communities across West Cumbria. We also offer emotional support, complementary therapies and specialist lymphoedema care. All our services are delivered free of charge to those who need them.

I did it!!! Major achievement for me as I am the most unfit, kitkat eating couch potato ever!!! Thanks to everyone who sponsored me, so far in total £92500:00 was raised by everyone last night!

So it&rsquo;s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.</p> <p>So please dig deep and donate now.</p> <div class="componentheading">I, along with my fantastic daughter Abigail and the girls from work are taking part in Hospice at Home West Cumbria's Ladies Midnight Walk on 8th July 2011.</div> <div class="componentheading">This is a 6 mile walk along the streets of Whitehaven.</div> <table class="blog" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tbody> </tbody> </table> <div id="ja-banner"><strong><span style="font-weight: normal;"> <div style="text-align: left;"><span class="dropcap">H</span>ospice at Home West Cumbria was established in 1987.&nbsp; It exists to provide the best possible palliative care to terminally ill patients, to give help and support to their carers/loved ones, and to make its services available to everybody in West Cumbria who needs them.&nbsp;</div> </span></strong><br style="font-weight: normal;" /><strong>&nbsp;</strong><br style="font-weight: normal;" /><strong><span style="font-weight: normal;">The heart of&nbsp;their operation is&nbsp;their home nursing service, giving skilled nursing support on a one-to-one basis to any adult with a terminal illness in their own home.&nbsp; This provides respite care for patients and their families; it enables terminally ill patients to remain at home and dying patients to be discharged from hospital to their own homes.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;They are one of the very few providers of home nursing for the terminally ill, and were one of the two hospices that pioneered this service in 1987. </span></strong><br style="font-weight: normal;" /><strong></strong><br style="font-weight: normal;" /><strong><span style="font-weight: normal;">Additionally&nbsp;they provide Hospice Support in three community locations, Hospice Day Care in two places, a Lymphoedema Service, and a Bereavement Support Service.&nbsp; Patients can get Complementary Therapy treatment at the Hospice Support sessions and at hospice Day Care or in their own homes.&nbsp; All services are provided free.The NHS provides sufficient funding to cover about 1/3 of our costs.&nbsp; The rest, &pound;7,500 a week, has to be raised locally through voluntary donations, fundraising and legacies.</span></strong></div>
