Thanks for taking the time to visit the official donation page for the inaugural Australian Winter Swimming Team as we prepare to swim where no Australian has tread water before - the World Winter Swimming Championships in Latvia 2012. Don't forget to keep up the support on our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/AUS.winter.swimming
A big part of our mission (along with establishing Australia as a world winter swimming power) is to raise funds for the charity Cricket Without Boundaries (and note, all funds from this page will go to the charity, not our competition costs - yay!).
So what do cricket, sub-Saharan Africa and the fight against HIV have to do with winter swimming? Not much unless Eric Moussambani turns up to Latvia with a cricket bat, a box of Durex and a unflinching belief that swimming 25 metres in freezing water will be infinitely more achievable than 100 metres in an Olympic pool (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zjCc_VyxM4).
Nonetheless, we wholeheartedly support Cricket Without Boundaries' efforts to send cricket coaches to a number of countries in Africa to teach the game to children and teachers, with an emphasis on encouraging safe sex behaviours. You can read more about their work here - http://www.cricketwithoutboundaries.com/ but in the meantime, please show your support for the team’s fundraising efforts by donating some of your hard earned to the cause. As far as worthy causes go, it is a close runner-up to Australia regaining their rightful position as the greatest nation in world sport. And given we'll be freezing our collective backsides off in the pursuit of world championship glory, it's the least you could do... ;-)
