We would like to thank everyone for their generous donations, all money surplus to Aarons helmet fund will go to headstart4babies and into a fund to help other families pay for treatment. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has taken the time to donate. Undoubtedly Aaron will also be when he is old enough to know what people have given to help him.
Aaron has had his helmet for 3 weeks now, he had his first review last week and his measurements have reduced already. His next review will be in 3 weeks time. He has adjusted well to wearing it and is still a happy little chap!
A few weeks after our son, Aaron, was born we noticed his head shape wasn't quite normal and he had a flat spot. We raised our concerns with our health visitor and were told it was normal and would change when he sat up. As time went on Aaron started sitting up for long periods of time, we used a special pillow for whenever he was lying down, but still his head shape wasnt changing. Again our health visitor wasn't concerned and said that even if it didn't change shape, his hair would cover it when he was older.
Not happy with this we looked on the internet and found the number for a company specialising in 'helmets' for babies with the condition. We made an appointment and discovered Aaron was in the severe category for both Brachycephaly and Plagiocephaly. Because of the shape on his head his left ear was pushed further forward than his right, his forehead was bulging and if left his teeth may have problems. We decided that ultimately we had no choice but to order a helmet, as any parent would do what they could to help their child. Unfortunately the NHS in our area do not treat this condition as it is seen as 'cosmetic'
The helmet treatment costs just under £2000 so we are attempting a sponsored walk to see if we can raise some of the funds.
Aaron will be joining us on the walk along with his auntie Lorna and Milly the dog. We will be doing a walk of 8.5 miles around the Paisley Parks on the 21st February, visiting Foutain Gardens, Barshaw Park, Jennys Well, Saucelhill Park, Brodie Park, Ferguslie Gardens and Dunn Square.
If you would like to sponsor us ffor our walk and help to pay for Aarons helmet it would be much appreciated, and we will be very grateful (as will A when he's older im sure!)
