Story

THE DIP HAS BEEN DONE........!!

Hi,

A big thanks to you all for donating to St Kentigern, in the end we have raised double my initial target.

My contribution includes money donated offline by:  Staff at Omnibus, Mary (mum of three of the dippers) Ian and Sue, Sali & Daz, Adrian & Maria, Janet and Edward and Linda and Karen who had just come down to the beach to have a ride out on their horses! A Big Thank you all.

Essentially this event is now over; but worryingly when leaving the Sea there was mention of next year !.

I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year!

Best Wishes

James

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Earlier this year my father passed away; his final days were made all the more barable due to the care and support both he and the family recived from St Kentigern, St Asaph.

This Hospice is run entyly from charitable donatons and by way of repayment I have volunteered to do a 'sponsored swim' in the sea at Abergele (North Wales, UK) on Boxing Day this year.

Many many years ago the Boxing Day Swim was an annual event for a group of local youths. Up to a dozen young men and women met at the 'sewage outlet' (yes odd I know, but the water is just that bit warmer near this outlet!) - some opted to be smothered in lard; others preferred the minimal protection offered by a wet suit; yet others would tough-it-out with swimming briefs and a T-shirt. The swim was always followed by hot soup and a swig or two of brandy.

This year we're holding a re-union of this event and those dozen or so youths are now middle-aged and fragile (although some of us have built up some "blubber" over the years which might actually help keep the cold out!). Sea temperatures are expected to be about 7 degrees Centigrade........ That's COLD. We're in for a shock!

I will be raising money along side a good friend, Gwynedd who is also raising money for Cancer Research UK another worthy cause http://justgiving.com/AbergeleSeaSwim

Anyone wanting to join us .... we're meeting at 11.30am, 26th December 2009 on Abergele Beach.

For those who cant make it I will be putting up photos to prove we did go in, on this site after the event.

Thankyou for your support of this worthy cause!

MERRY CHRISTMAS....
