ShelterBox Dartmoor Challenge · 13 September 2014

ShelterBox work to ensure that vulnerable families around the world have life-saving emergency shelter, and other essential tools and aid items, after disaster strikes. Be it an earthquake, flood, conflict or hurricane, we are there for those most in need.

Story

I'm taking part in the Dartmoor Challenge, run by ShelterBox to raise money to support their work distributing vital aid to men, women and children whose lives have been ruined by disasters around the world. Right now ShelterBox are providing shelter and basic aid thousands made homeless by natural disaster in The Philippines and war in Syria. I live a comfortable life here in UK, and so this is a way of doing something to help those less fortunate.

The Dartmoor Challenge requires us to carry a box full of aid across the unrelenting terrain of Dartmoor, for 45 miles, over two days. See http://dartmoorchallenge.org/. I'm taking part in the challenge with a team of former St. Bart's students, with whom I did the Ten Tors Challenge, also on Dartmoor, years ago. This is a reunion for us, and a chance to give something back by doing what we enjoy. Please visit our team page - the "Bart's Boot Bashers".

Before this arduous event takes place, however, my boyfriend Adam and I will be hiking over 800 miles across the mountains of France this summer. Let's just call it a rather over-the-top 10 week training regime!
