Endometriosis - What Is It? - Endometriosis (pronounced end - oh – mee – tree – oh – sis) is the name given to the condition where cells like the ones in the lining of the womb (uterus) are found elsewhere in the body.
Every month your body goes through hormonal changes. You naturally release hormones which cause the lining of the womb to increase in preparation for a fertilised egg. If pregnancy does not occur, this lining will break down and bleed. The blood is then released from your body as a period.
Endometriosis cells react in the same way – except that they are located outside your womb.  During your monthly cycle your hormones stimulate the endometriosis, causing it to grow, then break down and bleed. This internal bleeding, unlike a period, has no way of leaving the body. This leads to inflammation, pain, and the formation of scar tissue (adhesions).  Endometrial tissue can also be found in the ovary, where it can form cysts, called ‘chocolate cysts’ because of their appearance.

Endometriosis is not an infection. Endometriosis is not contagious. Endometriosis is not cancer.

My Name is Abigail Smith, I Live in Evesham and Im 17.

In November 2009 i found out i had this condition. It started about 2 Years ago, i started getting pains in my Ovaires, the doctors thought it was just pains as my body grew. but then the pains got worse, i would end up on the floor curled up as the pains were that bad, i then fell pregnant twice last year and misscarried both times, i then got worried, thinking i wasnt able to conceive, i spoke alot about my pains and different symptoms i got with my Auntie and she mentioned i might have a condition called Endometriosis, so i went back to my doctors and asked them about it, i then got booked in the a keyhole surgery - Laparoscopy

A laparoscopy is performed under a general anaesthetic. A small cut measuring 1 to 2cm is made in or just below the belly-button. Through this cut, the laparoscope is gently introduced into the abdomen.

Additional instruments are often required. These are usually introduced via even smaller cuts in the skin above or to the side of the pubic hair.

I had this operation in November 2009, since then i have looked into the causes and what i can do to make sure it doesnt get worse. thats when i come across a website for Endometriosis Uk and read about the BIG JUMP for endo.

Its a sponsored Skydive from 10,000 Ft, freefalling at over 120mph. I am doing this skydive as i want to raise money to help other women who also have this condition.

So please donate if you would like to help me raise enough.

Thank You!
