Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Since 2006 when my Mum Jane was first diagnosed with M.E. she has experienced many challenges however she faces these head on and has worked as a Senior Lecturer in a prestigious University; taken part as a volunteer in the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics 2012; volunteered for a UK charity and has still found the strength to support both of her children and her husband. She, like many other people diagnosed with M.E., their families, friends and carers are simply inspirational.
M.E. is a chronic, fluctuating illness which devastates lives and although there are approximately 250,000 people diagnosed with the condition in the U.K., with figures increasing to 1:100 among young people aged 11-16 year old, there is little information known about the condition amongst the general public.
Action for M.E. is the leading U.K. charity for people affected by M.E. Its mission is to empower people with M.E. to fulfil their potential and secure the care and support they need, while working towards a greater understanding of the illness and ultimately a cure. They provide a valuable service to those people affected by M.E. through publications, online resources and via a telephone support line in addition to which, they campaign for better support for those affected by M.E., work collaboratively with clinicians, healthcare professionals, employers, researchers and key stakeholders.
Myself and my friend Willie are raising money for Action for M.E. so that we can help to support and improve the lives of others who have been diagnosed with this devastating condition. We hope that completing the Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Marathon, an incredible endurance event, will inspire others to donate to Action for M.E. and help make the lives of those affected by the illness better.
Please help by offering a donation to Action for M.E. by clicking on 'DONATE' and pledging your support. You can also help further by forwarding this JustGiving web link to all of your family, friends, colleagues and any one else who you think could assist to raise money for this worthwhile charity who are working to improve the lives of 250,000 people in the UK.
Thank you all.
