AFC Stoke Newington (who my daughter plays football for) are raising funds for St Joseph’s Hospice. AFC is Stoke Newington's only women's and girls football club was founded by Ian Bruce, a local teacher, football coach and all round good guy whose mum sadly passed away. Ian's mum and family received remarkable care and support at St Joseph's.
Ian has ensured that through AFC, local girls are given the opportunity to realise their football potential and also develop many other skills beyond football.
By getting the club and its friends to raise money for a such a great cause really illustrates the strength, support and generosity of our local community
St Joseph's opened in Hackney in 1905, and since then has been caring for and supporting people affected by serious illness in eight London boroughs. They work to improve the quality of life of more than 2,100 patients with life-limiting conditions each year, helping them live life to the full, to the very last. St Jo's have to raise £19,000 each day to keep our vital services running and available to the 2.2 million people in our diverse community, so every penny raised for the hospice is really important, and very much appreciated.
