7th April update ;
Hi Guys,
The big day is nearly here and I am getting a little nervous. Luckily (touch wood) my tendonitis has settled down and I've been able to fit in a couple of longish runs before starting to taper.
I thought you might be interested in my training totals, on 11th October 2010 my marathon training started in earnest to enable me to run 26.2miles on the 17th April and over 27 weeks I have......
Ran 457.5M,
Cycled 12.5M (In Hoi An Vietnam)
Swam 6.5M (of front crawl I should add)
I'd also like to add my training has taken place in two continents and three countries - I like to call the Cambodia and Vietnam training "Humidity Training" lets hope for some colder weather on the day.
Thanks for all your support, it means a lot. Adel x
Why I am running the London Marathon........
I am running the London Marathon on 17 April 2011, my first marathon! After watching my Brother in Law run last year I at last decided to pluck up the courage and enter. Luckily or perhaps unluckily I got a place first time! My objectives for the day are to survive with no major injuries and beat Lorraine Kelly's time from 2010!
I knew if I was to get a place that I had to run for the Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF). The MRF funds research to prevent meningitis and septicaemia, and to improve survival rates and outcomes. The Foundation promotes education and awareness to reduce death and disability, and gives support to people affected.
In 2001 my close friend Jen died from Meningitis, ten years on there is still no vaccine for the B strain of the virus, through running the marathon I hope I can help the MRF to continue researching this vaccine.
