My charity

I have chosen my charity, AT as this is an illness that Kirsty's (my wife's) best friend Michele sadly lost her battle with in 2005, so it is close to our hearts.

Training Update - We train on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons in Uckfield and the surrounding villages.  So if you see us, give us a wave.Target just to finish the Marathon.We check the exact milage for each run through mapmyrun website.

Week 1 - My first run in 28 years was on the 5th October with my running partner Lindsey, we ran 5 miles in 1 hour.  We finished the week doing 15 miles in 3hrs 30min.Calf muscles blown away couldn't climb the stairs after the last run.Start weight 66.8 kilos.

Week 2 - This week we did a total of 16 miles in 3hrs 7mins.Struggling without JUNK food.Apparently apples are good for endurance so magners cider is going down a treat!

Week 3 - We did our first eight mile run in 1hour and 20min.  For the week we did 19 miles in 3hrs 21mins.Shins hurting alot this wk. Wildlife:Squirrels out in force and passed a field of the nutty bird kind - pheasants.

Week 4 - This week we did 2 eight mile runs.  Total mileage for the week, 21 miles in 3hrs 20mins.Diet sorting itself out very slowly, wholemeal pasta,scrambled eggs and redbush tea.Yuck.Registered for The Sussex Beacon 1/2 Marathon on Feb 21st to help our progress.

Week 5 - This week we did 25 miles in 3hrs 49 mins over four runs.  We went to The Brighton Metropole for a talk on marathon preparation;the route and entertainment.Best wear me white suit on the run!Target revisited to run The marathon in 5 hrs. Setup my charity page.Weight 65.4 kilos.Back on the coffee. 

Week 6 - Our first 10 mile run in 1 hr 39mins. Total for the week, 23 miles in 3hrs 44mins.Our most comfortable and strongest 3 runs to date.Wildlife:Saw our first sighting of red deer on Ashdown Forest.

Week 7 - This week we have run a total of 23 miles in 3hrs 46mins.  Ran in 40mph winds and heavy rain for all 3 runs!  I have now run to Birmingham if you add up all the mileage so far to date.Had KFC THIS WEEKEND..DELICIOUS.

Week 8 - Total of 30 miles in 4hrs 50 mins on 4 runs.All in the strong winds and pouring rain again.. lovely.Weight 63.8 kilos.Wildlife:Awaiting crocodiles to launch themselves from some of the lakes we were running through.

Week 9 - Total of 25 miles in 3hrs 48 mins.Fine rain on both long runs.Quite comfortable this week.Will now be increasing Mon run every 2 wks by a couple of miles.Wed and Fri will stay at 10 miles and 5 miles. 

Week 10- Our first 12 mile run.Unfortunately Lindsey had a really bad stomach bug and is on antibotics so their was a few forced stoppages.The 12 mile run climbs 525 ft between 4/6 miles just to add to the fun! Covered 27 miles in 4hrs 33mins.Weight 64.3 kilos.Nice to see the Christmas decks up in the houses.

Week 11- Only clocked up 18 miles this week due to adverse weather.Did get offered ice skates.

Week12- Happy Christmas. Big bonus we managed a quick 5 miles Sunday.Wildlife-Six half melted Snowmen.Set up on the WII-Fit so Snow doesn't affect progress.I have a fine character with a bald head and tash which the kids designed (love em)and I'm doing a beginners Step-class.

Week 13- Happy New Year. Back in the Groove.Covered 28 miles in 4hrs 24mins.Had to burn off the hangover and chinese from New Years Eve rave up.Weight:63.7 kilos.Wildlife:Hop little bunnies..hop..hop..hop.

Week 14- Snow stopped play.Only 10 miles this week.

Week 15- Ran over the last 3 days to clock some milage this week.21 miles in 3hrs 20 mins.Weight 63.4 kilos.

Week 16- Ran 18 miles in 2hrs 50 mins.Looking to double the milage next wk as we are down to the last 12 wks of training.Thought about The Riddler and Robin costumes but not for our first marathon probably next year.Riddle me this?

Week 17- Completed our first 14 mile run in 2hrs 11mins.Total milage for the week was 41 miles over 4 runs.348 miles of training so far not bad for an old bloke and mademoiselle lindsey.  

Week 18- Completed first 18 mile run abit hurty hurty around 15 miles but pulled through.Time for 18 miles was 2hr 47 mins.total for wk was 28 miles in 4 hrs.Wildlife:Dive bombed by 8 pheasants.

Week 19- Poor week of training only 10 miles in 1hr 40 mins.

Week 20-Ran 18 miles on wed+fri in 2hrs 30mins.Sussex Beacon 1/2 marathon completed on Sun in..wait for it... 2hrs 6 seconds gazelle like over 13.1 miles.Not bad for an old bloke and a fine young lady.Wildlife:6100 human beings with The Penguin and Batman making appearances.

Week 21 and 22- No Runs...whack   whack  oooops

Week23- 18 mile run sunday in 2hrs 41mins.Owl like conditions starting at 5:35 in the morning yesh yesh yawning.Ran the first 8 miles too quick paid the price over the last 5 miles.Learning curve not to set off to fast.Weight after the run 60.8 kilos.

week24- 20 mile run sunday in 3hrs 11 mins.5:30 start time again.Paced myself better recovery alot better on the feet today.Signed up for the Beachy-Head Marathon in Oct.

Weeks-25,26,27- Left knee injury from 18 mile run in wk 25 and a bad back from lifting.Only run 2 miles last wk to see if i'm fit.

Brighton Marathon time -4hrs 50mins.
