Paris Marathon 2013 · 7 April 2013 ·

The Diamond Centre is a registered charity providing unique facilities to benefit disabled children and adults by having regular contact with horses. It is widely recognised that riding helps disabled people both physically and mentally - and remarkable improvements achieved by so many of those attending The Diamond Centre are proof of this.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most of you will know I am running the Paris marathon in April. This being my first marathon it really is a little bit of a challenge. However, thus far my training is going really well!

I will be raising money for an incredibly worthwhile cause; The Diamond Riding Centre for the disabled in Banstead, Surrey. They are a wonderful charity, giving disabled children and adults the opportunity to climb onto the back of a friendly horse and learn to ride. Most of the instructors work on a voluntary basis, giving up their time to help others. My Mum volunteered at the Diamond about 20 years ago, suffice to say, she’s still there. Now a fully accomplished Instructor.  She is constantly relating wonderful stories to us. Stories that paint a picture so vividly that it’s easy to see how an instructor and a horse, or several can bring so much pleasure to so many people. It’s not just the pleasure, but the learning this experience brings, many tears of joy have been shed at the sight of a rider’s face sitting high upon a horse, giving them the confidence they may otherwise lack.  I have visited the Diamond Centre in Banstead and seen first-hand what a wonderful job this organisation, and all its volunteers and staff do. They receive NO national or local government support, or any Lottery funding at all, and the actual cost of running this amazing centre is over £300,000 every year. They rely totally on donations, so please dig deep and give whatever you can to help them continue to do a fabulous job. I can assure you they put so many smiles on so many faces, and your support, I know will just help them spread those smiles even further. I’m asking you to put your money on a horse, yet I’ll be the one doing the running.

Thank you!
