Hello! And thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
In October 2010 I travelled to rural villages in Vietnam with Dentaid to provide essential help to children. We assisted LOVE, a small NGO run by volunteers. Dentaid has provided LOVE with portable equipment to provide dental aid in rural areas where it is much needed. I treated over 300 children with tooth decay along with two other British dentists and Dr Hung's Vietnamese dental team. We also provided much needed oral health education, nutrition advice and also volunteered at the Danang street children orphanage.
In aid of this cause we also completed a treacherous 3 day trek to the 10,312 ft summit of Mount Fansipan! It is the highest point in Vietnam and the Indochina peninsula.
It is a sad fact that many developing countries do not have the funds to provide basic dental care to children. Untreated cavities lead to pain and infection. This can directly impact the ability to eat and assimilate nutrients, having a negative effect on growth and development and overall chance of survival.
Dentaid is devoted to the improvement of the oral health of disadvantaged communities around the world.
