We have been working hard to move from couch to 10km. It hasn't been easy and some days the couch looks a lot more attractive than a run in the rain!  But on days like these us Davey sisters are spurred on by the Child of Hope workers and their selfless volunteers. Let's tell you a little about our chosen charity....

In March 2011 Cliona spent 8 weeks volunteering with a small non-governmental organisation called Child of Hope in Eastern Uganda.

Child of Hope is based in Namatala which is one of Uganda’s poorest slums and has been described as ‘the biggest slum in one of the poorest regions in one of the poorest countries on earth’. The charity has a small nursery and primary school, a school nurse, an income generating/business incentive scheme and a small outreach health and welfare team. Child of Hope is fully dependent on donations and people volunteering and sharing their knowledge, skills and experience. The charity struggles on a daily basis in meeting the children’s education, health and welfare needs and really needs a steady stream of funding to continue their inspiring and ground breaking work.

Having worked directly with this small charity Cliona can confirm that all money donated to Child of Hope goes directly to those working in the slum with overheads and administrative costs being kept to a minimum. Child of Hope is a truly unique and grass roots charity totally dedicated to meet the needs of a community living in total and utter destitution.
