Hi everyone, thanks so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After years of umming and aahing, I am really excited to be running the first Virgin London Marathon on Sunday 25 April 2010 on behalf of the RNLI lifeboats. It would be fantastic to raise at least £500 so if you can afford to make a donation, no matter how small, I would be extremely grateful.
I've chosen the RNLI as my charity for a simple reason - I wouldn't be here without them! Those of you who know me well will know I was born on a little island (Inismore) off the coast of Galway in the South of Ireland. On New Year's Eve 1982, I decided it was time to make my entrance into the world and it was the RNLI who transported my mum from the island, where there was no doctor, to a hospital on the mainland.
After that, I grew up in Kilkeel, a small fishing town in Northern Ireland where the lifeboats have an important presence. Plenty of friends and family back home know many people who have benefitted from this charity. I'm delighted to have this special opportunity to give something back to them.
Last year, the RNLI lifeboats helped more than 7,600 people in trouble at sea across the UK and saved 288 lives. Your money can support the RNLI in the future: £16 will buy a volunteer a pair of gloves and £40 a pair of boots, for example.
Thanks in advance for your support. Below you will also find some official blurb about donating through JustGiving.
