I have just completed a SkyDive with an amazing group of people who were all raising money to save lives from the dreadful disease of tuberculosis. I can only describe it as one of the most amazing, indescribable experiences that I have ever had.
The nerves didn’t actually really kick in until we watched a video as part of our training. We saw a film of someone being taken up in the plane and then jumping out of it and saw their sky dive. It was terrifying to watch. It was then that it totally dawned on me what I had actually let myself in for – and I cried – but I didn’t actually let anyone know I was crying!!
Going up in the plane was very scary, more in anticipation of what was about to happen than anything else! Next came the jump! Sitting in the plane’s doorway in mid air with only the earth below was an incredible and terrifying experience.
We then jumped and fell through the air at £120mph, with no parachute – we were very high up indeed. It was incredible. The most amazing part, I thought, was when the parachute opened and we began our long descent to earth. My tandem parachutist gave me an extended tour of the whole of East Anglia – when you are that high up you can see a very long way.
I am raising funds for TB Alert, and helping to save lives and relieve suffering of thousands of people from a dreadful disease which kills over 1.7 million people a year around the world. Yet TB is a forgotten disease. The people who are affected by it are forgotten. We should remember them and rise to the challenge of eradicating TB.
I did my bit by launching myself out of a plane at 13,000 feet and I’d be ever so grateful for your support by sponsoring me. Just £25 can save a life from TB – please give whatever you can – it really will make a difference. Thank you.
