Behind their smiles and slick service hospitality workers can fall upon hard times just like anybody else. Ours is a stressful industry, with long hours, high pressure environments and physically demanding work. We are here to offer financial, physical and psychological support to those who need it.

Story

As a keen cyclist I was more than happy to accept the challenge when Hospitality Action invited me to take part in a cycle ride from London to Paris this summer.  The charity hopes that this challenge of a lifetime will raise £20,000 for those in need with each of the cyclists taking part being asked to raise a minimum of £1000.

Hospitality Action is the hospitality Industry’s benevolent organisation, offering vital assistance to all who work, or have worked within hospitality in the UK and who find themselves in crisis.

The 270 mile route is considered to be one of the best cycling routes in Europe and goes through the heart of Tour de France country.

Cycling this number of miles in three days requires months of training, dedication and commitment. I have been on the bike a fair bit which is nice now the weather is getting better and I’ve been averaging 10-12 hours a week. I have also been doing a fair bit of Turbo training, trying the get muscles used to aero bars in a controlled environment. Sessions include 15 x 3 minutes hard during 2 hours spinning. It is mentally draining and my god do you sweat buckets, but the good thing about indoor bike training is it seems so much easier when you are back outdoors. To do this event for such a worthy cause as Hospitality Action will make all the hard work and effort worthwhile.
