Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This year I have the opportunity to run in the London Marathon thanks to JRS.  Not only do I get to compete in one of the great marathons of the world, but for the first time  I will be running for a good cause.  JRS offers support to asylum seekers who find themselves dependent upon charity to survive.  Running for JRS will give me that extra incentive to keep going when it just seems easier to give up - (usually after 35 KM) !.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

Thank you for your support

Update 28/3/10:  With 4 weeks left to go, I managed a long 3 hr training run around the forests of Ernster in the company of Olivier who is in training for the Prague Marathon. Only the last two hours were spent in the cold wet miserable rain and only the last hour hurt.  Much like our run the previous week.

Update 4/4/10: 3 weeks to go and the last of my long training runs around the myriad of beautiful forest paths around Bambesh forest.  So beautiful that I forgot where I was and ended up running a little further than I had wanted to.  One thing remained the same however - the persistent rain.   I hope the weather in London will be better !

Update 10/4/10:  Finally a week of beautiful spring weather which made todays 2 hr run along the Alzette river very enjoyable indeed.  Best not look at the watch though - I can't imagine completing 42KM  - but the hard work is mostly done and I can look forward to the atmosphere, sights and sounds of London.

Update 18/4/10:  Last run before the marathon !  Well, I'm not sure its the very last run but 10KM this morning around the forest of Leudelange brings my training program to an end.  The support and donations I have received have been fantastic and will be enough to carry me around the full 42KM - Icelandic volcanoes and flight schedules permitting.  I am already making plans to drive to London if necessary.  I'll let you know how I get on ...

Update 2/5/10:  I did it -  3hrs 56min by the watch - but that doesn't tell the story of a truly memorable experience.  Even if the last 6 miles were something to forget I won't be able to forget running along the Embankment and Pall Mall to the finish.  Nor will I forget the pink fairies, penguins, leprechauns, and superheroes who kept me company all the through the race.    Thank you all for your generosity and support.  I almost wish I could do it all again.

Good luck Alan! When you start to flag, the good cause will keep you going! But you won’t flag. I am sure you have worked hard in preparation. Just take enough jelly babies with you – and don’t do what I did which was to try to keep a specific average speed because the first half is just too much of a squeeze. In short: take it easy and enjoy the sights and the atmosphere! Donation by CHRISTOPHER ALBRECHT on 26/03/10
