Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Blog here: www.swcp2013.blogspot.com

In September 2012 my father went to the doctor after having a reoccuring pain in his lower stomach and leg. This was diagnosed as prostate cancer in an advanced stage which has spread to his bones and the prognosis is terminal. It is likely that the cancer had been there for 5/6 years causing no pain or discomfort, but slowly growing and becoming more dangerous.

Without becoming too scientific, recent research has produced drugs which can control something called PSA, a protein which is measure of cancer levels in the prostate. My father's PSA count has dropped from over 400, to 30. His prostate is very much under control - but with the disease in his bones it will only serve to slow down the advancing cancer.

Dad has come to terms with the fact that his life is finite and has talked about a new appreciation for friends, family and the amazing life that we all take for granted. He has always been a very hands on person and has found it hard to accept that he will no longer be able to do the jobs and handywork that he has done all his life.

With your money, prostate cancer treatment will become more effective and more available to everyone. Everyone deserves to live a full life and with your support we can make this happen.

Prostate Cancer UK fund numerous projects (great info. on their website) including working towards blocking the movement of cancerous cells away from the prostate to avoid it taking over the body (most prostate cancer deaths are due to this, rather than the prostate cancer itself). This would have directly benefitted my father and the research is well on the way!

I am aiming to raise £1890, which equates to just £3 per mile. I will be walking everyday with a tent and carrying all my equipment. I will resupply every few days in the many coastal towns and aim to complete the 630 miles in 5 weeks, an average of 18 miles per day. There is much more information about the path itself on the SWCP website. If you donate 1p per mile I will hopefully turn that into £6.30 over the summer - if you would like to sponsor me in this way, please just sent me an email and I will collect money in August.

If anyone would like to know more about this page, what I am going to be doing, prostate cancer in general, or you have any concerns yourself, please take the time to explore this JustGiving page, the Prostate Cancer UK website, or get in touch with me directly.

I will be updating my progress as I walk with blog posts and GPS coordinates. All of this information will be on this page:
