Story
dear friends,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. " My Mum ~ Margaret Shand : my tribute "
Thank you to all of you who have shared my journey. I have been overwhelmed with messages of condolence, sympathy cards and offers of simply being there to talk to.
Mum's late evening passing was very peaceful, in her own Rafford village home, in her favourite room, view out of her window across the countryside bathed in late evening sunshine, log fire, gentle background music, surrounded by family and lots of warmth and love.
Over 400 people attended Mum's funeral with my brother Phil and I as meeters and greeters at the door. There was standing room at the back - Mum had even organised a 1pm service so that the people from the shops in the local town of Forres could attend, some of Mum’s care nurses attended - quite a character was Mum… A piper led the procession from the church to the cemetery and the burial. The bagpipes in the gentle breeze added to the celebration of her life and the sound accompanied people as they dispersed to their cars. So much to say – it was one of the best days of my life and an honour and a privilege. (When I left to come home last weekend, there were over 110 sympathy cards and they were still arriving.)
It has been a very moving and humbling experience returning home after leaving Mum in her final resting place. As we say in Scotland, ''a queer time in my life right now''. So thank you to everyone for their care, concern, kindness, prayers and thoughts - Very best wishes to all.
