St Joseph’s Hospice helped my friend Ian Bruce and his family when his mother had cancer. 25 of us are running on her behalf to raise money for the hospice.
I have run many 10K, Half-Marathons and Marathons before but have never raised money for charity. So to mark this special occasion I am aiming to achieve two things. Firstly I hope to be the fastest fancy dress finisher on the day at the Hackney Half. Secondly I hope to achieve an Official Guinness World Record.
The record I am attempting is 'the fastest half marathon dressed as a fast food item'. The current record is: 1 hour 25 minutes and 47 seconds. I will be making the attempt dressed as a hot dog.
11th April - A quick update for you... As you can see from the new pictures, the costume has arrived and I have taken it for a test spin. Did a 10k race in Stratford, came 16th (out of over 400), with a time of 37.45! This means the World Record is ON!
24th April - Another update... If breaking a world record in the half marathon isn't enough to get you to sponsor me, I have recently run the Brighton Marathon. I did it in normal clothes and managed a personal best time of 2 hours 56 minutes 22 seconds! This means I'll be in good shape on the 22nd May to get the fast food world record.
20th May - Good news, bad news, and good news! Good news - I got 1.23.27, smashing the previous world record! Bad news - I haven’t met the criteria to make it Guiness official, so it’s an unofficial world record. Good news - I was fastest fancy dress finisher on the day and won money, half of which will go to the St Joseph’s cause!
