Story
You wouldn't say no to your Mama!
I am starting this donation site for the kids and adolescents of Mama Cocha, the center where I am working in Los Organos, Peru. We have just finished an amazing three months and the New Year promises to be even more action packed with activities, therapy and most of all, fun.
For those of you who don't know Mama Cocha, it is part of Kiya Peru Positive Action. Kiya Peru Positive Action has two main centers: The Rainbow Center, a school for special needs children and adolescents, and Mama Cocha. It also has two outreach centers as well.
Mama Cocha is two centers within one complex. We are a "foster" home, the Mama Cocha House, for special needs children and adolescents in the Los Organos, Mancora and surrounding region. The house members, ranging from 5- 23 with a variety of intellectual and developmental disabilities, receive 24-hour care from our substitute mothers and enjoy all the services one would expect in a house. They also receive therapy from our professional staff every day: physical, language and psychological.
The second center where all therapy is preformed is the Early Bird Center. Here kids and adolescents in the community, whether having special needs or not, can get free therapy sessions from our staff. Most importantly, the Early Bird Center is focusing on mothers and their babies and we offer Early Stimulation/Baby Massages to promote better relationships between mother and child as well as stimulate the baby so that he or she can cognitively grow faster. Finally we offer a program for women/mothers of the area which is called Mama Cafe. Here women have a safe haven to speak their mind and find solidarity within a group and mostly understand that they are not alone.
This is but a slice of the programs that we offer. 1000 pounds will ensure that Mama Cocha continues its prominence in the communities of northern Peru and ensure its ultimate success. Your donations will go towards art supplies, therapy equipment and materials, general maintenance and anything that can improve the lives of our house members along with the community.
Jose Antonio, Claudia, Hector and Milagros along with myself thank you immensely and know that you are part of our family here at Mama Cocha along with Kiya Peru Positive Action.
