Story

My amazing best friend Alex died in February this year after a 4 year battle with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer. He was just 22 years old and had married lovely Ali only 5 days previously. Despite everything, Al was rarely seen without a big smile on his face and had a hugely caring nature. He was always vocal about his support for the Bone Cancer Research Trust - wanting to help raise awareness to try and prevent more young people being diagnosed in the future.

In order to keep his legacy going, we will be cycling around 300 miles over 6 days from Treyarnon Bay in North Cornwall to Rhossili Bay in South Wales. These were 2 of Alex's favourite places to visit and are also where he asked for his ashes to be buried.

Around 450 people are diagnosed with bone cancer each year in the UK and Republic of Ireland, mainly affecting children and young people between the ages of 10 and 24. The most common types of bone cancer are osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma.

As bone cancer is rare, research into primary bone cancer currently gets very little funding from other sources. Almost half of those diagnosed with osteosarcoma will not survive longer than 5 years and this is something that everyone involved desperately wants to try and improve. BCRT sets out to improve the outcome for people with primary bone cancer through research, awareness, information and support.

So please help by digging deep and donating as much as you can for an extremely worthy cause and a very special man.

Thank you so much. Emily
